A.R.E.M.

From diverse backgrounds of jazz, funk, rock and classical, the common goal  is a vibe of open space, user-friendly  genre-fluid musical values rooted in making you move, and moving you. 

With 40 years behind the bass, Andre brings groove, soul and a deep love of the pocket to AREM. Inspired by the timeless playing of James Jamerson and wowed by the fearless bass work of Paul Bender, his style is rooted in feel, groove and musicality. In the ’90s, he co-founded Blue Vinyl Lounge with AREM’s Eric, helping pioneer Melbourne’s acid jazz scene and earning international recognition in the early days of online music sharing. Today, he brings that experience and attitude to AREM, blending funky soul grooves with jazz and keeping the bass right where it belongs, in the pocket. 

Trained originally as an orchestral percussionist, a stint in England found Eric switching to saxophones, where he stayed in Blue Vinyl Lounge with Andre cracking the top spot in the mp3.com acid jazz charts and Australia's top 20 independent releases of 1999. Back home on the drums here, the open space of A.R.E.M. allows for a more experimental approach to the groove.
